Brothers of the Head
Dir: Keith Fulton, Louis Pepe
2005
***
Ten out of Ten for originality but this is quite a strange one. I loved the way they made this into a true story, with authors and the late great Ken Russell talking about the fictional film they made on the fictional subject. Indeed, if you're going to make a fake documentary then this is how you do it. The direction is pretty much beautiful all the way through, it really does feel like film footage taken from the 70's and edited in present day. The music is also pretty great. The story is bizarre enough to have been made into a film and a documentary if it was real, the fact that it isn't is a little confusing at first but great once you go with it. The bit where the Doctor talks of a tumour being in one of their Brains as probably being the fetus of their other brother is thrilling and terrifying at the same time but handled so subtly, it really is a film to behold. I didn't always like it but credit most definitely due.
