The Enemy Below
Dir: Dick Powell
1957
***
The concluding action sequence seems a little over the top for a serious film but the intended message is clear. It is this 'two sides to every war' message that puts this film above the rest in my opinion although it's still very much an American film. As much as I love Robert Mitchum, i'm not sure he'd have been my first choice as the American captain but Kurt Jurgens couldn't have been more suitable as the German skipper grown tired of the war but not without honour.
