The Spiral Staircase

I'm afraid I found The Spiral Staircase to be a little over rated. Sure the lightwork is impressive but then show me a 1940s film where is isn't, give me a Jacques Tourneur/Val Lewton production over this any day. I did like the opening scene where everyone is watching an old film as watching an old film with an older film within it is quite an interesting oddity. I also liked Mrs. Oates and her Brandy stealing ways but very little else unfortunately.
