They Might Be Giants
Dir: Anthony Harvey
1971
***
The idea is charming but the execution of it leaves a lot to be desired. The same cannot be said about George C. Scott's performance however, indeed it is a performance not to be missed. Joanne Woodward's counter character bounces off Scott's theatrical Holmes brilliantly, why isn't she more famous? The random collection of cameos and supporting cast is also something of a treat. Anthony Harvey is a much better editor than he is a director, it's baffling that he didn't edit his own film that was in desperate need of his talents. Watch for the great acting and the witty script.
