The many problems that Alien 3 encountered in its conception are well documented. The original script is a bizarre but  brilliant story of a colony of Monks living on a man-made wooden planet and after reading it I have to say it's a huge shame that it was never made, even though it seems to be what everyone involved wanted. The first film is about rape, the second about motherhood and this one was supposed to be about faith but it all went a bit wrong. It is still a good film, it's just a shame that Fincher got shafted by the producers but he still made a beautifully shot film, although it's a shame about the dodgy SFX. It really isn't as bad as everyone says (The Megadrive game was pretty good too).
