Night in the City is Robert DeNiro's 4th classic remake, along with We're No Angels, Cape Fear, and Frankenstein. Big performances, or at least big actors shoes to fill (Humphrey Bogart, Robert Mitchum, Boris Karloff). At least he brings his own performance to the table and he does the same here. It's an updated telling of the original film, one I'm not at all surprised Martin Scorsese once wanted to remake. He got close to it in other films he made and so Irwin Winkler and Robert De Niro decided to made it themselves. I liked it, it's not the original but the updated version works really well. De Niro is pretty great as Harry Fabian and some excellent support comes from Cliff Gorman, Alan King, Eli Wallach and the much missed Jack Warden.
