Skeletons
Dir: Nick Whitfield
2010
****
Skeletons is essentially a load of intelligent nonsense and very good it is too. It is a very cleverly written story with a witty and catchy script to match, it's not essentially an English story, in fact I found it to be very much universal or at least, in a no-mans land kind of way. That said, there is an essence of silliness to the story that is totally taken seriously, that no other country does as well as the Brits. The casting is pretty impressive too. I'd never heard of Andrew Buckley or Paul Dallison but both were brilliant. Getting Paprika Steen in as the Mother was a clever bit of casting and Jason Isaacs as The Colonel is one of my new favourite characters of all time. A refreshing alternative and a recent British film worth celebrating.
