The LeaderHis Driver and the Driver's Wife
Dir: Nick Broomfield
1991
****
The most interesting thing about this film is knowing what happened afterwards in retrospect. Nick Broomfield had no choice but to mock Eugene Terreblanche because quite frankly at that time it was hard to take him and his 'Dads army or Nazis' seriously. Unfortunately Broomfield does come across as a little bit arrogant at times but it must have been frustrating for him at the same time so he did show great strength by biting his tongue for so long. Best part for me though was the drivers wife, the simplest of people and so stupidly honest, she represents the mass ignorant of any society. Hats of to Broomfield for inventing a new documentary technique but Louis Theroux does it so much better.
