Viva Las Vegas
Dir: George Sidney
1964
***
Viva Las Vegas isn't necessarily George Sidney and Elvis Preasley's best film in their long term collaboration but it is probably their most famous. It's actually a film about a big car race but there is very little race footage in the film, the main story is focused on a rather unconvincing love triangle. Elvis Preasley is an unconvincing race driver/mechanic, Ann-Margret is an unconvincing pool manager, they both work in a rather unconvincing hotel that hold an extremely unconvincing talent show. It is safe to say that a rather poor story gets in the way of the fabulous music and dance routines. If you love Elvis (and I'm pretty sure everyone does?) then you will love this, although in my opinion Ann-Margret steals the show somewhat. Plus it has the best title music ever in the history of cinema.
