Getting Any? is definitely a 'Beat' film rather than a Takeshi Kitano film. It's hard to compare it to anything else but I suppose it's a cross between the Robin Askwith confessions films of the 1970's and Save the Green Planet, another bizarre (but brilliant) film from the East. It marks the end of 'Beat' Takashi in many ways too, Takeshi himself has said that this was a suicide for his alter-ego but it was also completed just before his accident which marks a huge change in direction for the actor/director. It's very silly, quite childish and doesn't do Japanese stereotypes many favours but it is quite fun. A guilty pleasure if you will.
