The Dog Who Saved Christmas
Dir: Michael Feifer
2009
*
Its amateur charm doesn't last long, The Dog Who Saved Christmas is another awful Christmas movie to add to the already very long list of seasonal stinkers. It's a mix of Home Alone and any (every) other cheap doggy movie out. The fact that they had to cast Kevin James's brother instead of Kevin James tells you everything you need to know. I feel sorry for Dean Cain though, I met him recently and he's far too nice for this crap, although it seems he's also in the sequel so I feel less sorry for him now. Indeed the casting is odd. Mindy Sterling seems a bit wasted as 'Kooky' Grandma and the inclusion of Adrienne Barbeau as 'Cat lady' can only be because who ever wrote this rubbish must be a Batman fan. Michael Feifer directed 9 films in 2012! Most of them either about Dogs or Christmas. This film was made in 2009 and already had 5 sequels in 4 years. They also seem to be the same film but a slightly different name. Quantity over quality all the way here, pretty awful stuff it is too.
