Breck Eisner's 2010 remake of The Crazies is one of the better horror remakes in recent years but then as fun as the original was, it was ripe for an update. George A. Romero is the producer here too, so no toes are trodden on, far from it. They got the cast right and most of the usual cliches are thankfully absent but strangely enough, I think it is modern technology that lets this contemporary version down (what are we going to do? Call for help! Oh, yeah..). You know they'll never get away and at the same time you know deep down that they probably shouldn't either, which is and isn't what good horrors should deliver. A good film but it just lacks a certain something I can't quite put my finger on.
