When things get bad, when life hits a new low, there is a saying that suggests 'Things can only get better'. I wonder if who ever owned the franchise at this point thought the same way but confused the phrase for 'The only way is up'? Jason was in hell the last we'd heard, 'Jason Goes to Hell' being a suitably sensationalist title/idea to keep public interest high (ha) while producers desperately tried to lift their Freddy vs Jason idea out of development hell. Where could Jason possibly go next other than into outer space.. and into the future. It's one way of continuing the franchise anyway and the only idea Todd Farmer pitched to the studio. It was excepted without enthusiasm but knowing that the character had to be kept in the media if they wanted their future plans to pay off. Jason X, the tenth Friday the 13th film (X = 10 in Roman numerals) isn't too bad a film if you don't take it too seriously, although I'm not sure how you could. It sounded like a cool idea initially but the cyborg version of Jason at the end of the film was a let down. Still, they could always do a prequel to this film, showing what happened before he was frozen. How about a film about how they tried to kill him? Yeah, maybe not. However, to it's credit, it's a bit more original than the 2009 remake by Marcus 'I haven't an original bone in my body' Nispel.
